Focus on Fall Prevention Education Next Week

Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 401 of the 1,061 construction fatalities recorded in 2019. Those deaths were preventable.

National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction begins Monday, May 3. The Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country, and gives builders and contractors a time to deliberately stop work to discuss fall prevention.

The week kicks off with a free webinar from OSHA on Monday, May 3, at 1 p.m. ET, who will be joined by NIOSH and the Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR). Hear experts from each organization discuss the data behind fall reporting, the importance of fall prevention training on jobsites, and new resources to help construction workers.

NAHB is also hosting a free town hall on Tuesday, May 4, at 2 p.m. focused on OSHA compliance. Hear about OSHA's top five fall-related violations and how to properly conduct an OSHA inspection. Matt Murphy, president and CEO of Safety Environmental Engineering, Inc. will share his extensive experience and knowledge on how to effectively manage fall prevention on the jobsite.
