Upcoming Webinars Celebrate Women in Building, Diversifying the Industry
To celebrate Women’s History Month in March, NAHB’s Workforce Development team and the Professional Women in Building (PWB) Council are hosting two webinars to showcase the important work women are doing in the field and the efforts being done to increase their numbers.
Although the number of women employed in the overall construction industry has risen each year over the past decade, the percentage of women in the field is still only around 10%. In addition, most women within the industry are involved in sales and office occupations and only about 3% are involved in construction and maintenance occupations — the very jobs where workers are needed the most to help fill the labor gap.
The House That SHE Built
Join the conversation on Thursday, March 25, from 1-2 p.m. ET, to hear from the all-female team behind The House That SHE Built – the first Utah home being built exclusively by women in construction, skilled tradeswomen and women-owned companies.
The Utah chapter of NAHB’s PWB Council is designing and constructing the home to be showcased in the 2021 Utah Valley Parade of Homes. The proceeds from the sale of the home will be divided between scholarships for women pursuing education in a construction-related field, women-focused charities, and future projects that support PWB.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Construction Careers
Increasing diversity, equity and inclusion are at the forefront of plans to grow the number of women in the building trades. But funding and policy changes must also be in the mix to help change the culture of the industry.
