Updated Job Site Coronavirus Guidance Includes New Advice for Face Coverings, Visitors
The Construction Industry Safety Coalition (CISC) published important updates to its guidance for construction employers, employees and contractors on coronavirus exposure prevention, preparedness and response. NAHB is a key member of CISC.
The Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Plan for Construction describes how to prevent worker exposure to coronavirus, protective measures to be taken on the job site, personal protective equipment and work practice controls to be used, cleaning and disinfecting procedures, and what to do if a worker becomes sick. The plan has been updated twice as new information has become available.
It is imperative that home builders continue to follow the recommended COVID-19 mitigation efforts and strategies to ensure the safety of workers and viability of ongoing construction operations.
Version 3 of the plan contains significant changes based on updated guidance from the CDC and other health officials, including:
- An expanded section to help employees understand the symptoms of COVID-19
- Screening questions for jobsite visitors
- Additional guidance on the use of face coverings
- Guidance on job site exposure situations, including positive tests
- Information on when to record a COVID-19 case on the OSHA 300 log
The safety plan, also available in Spanish, is customizable for companies to meet state requirements for a coronavirus response plan and includes a graphic-based poster intended for display.
Home builders, general contractors, contractors and others conducting work on construction job sites are encouraged to download the guidance, customize it for their companies, and distribute or display to workers.
The safety plan also contains authorization letters for workers to carry with them should they be asked by local law enforcement their purpose for being out of the house.
