The inaugural Innovative Housing Showcase opened June 1 to packed crowds on the National Mall exploring the latest housing technologies that are helping address the housing affordability crisis.

The five-day event, hosted by NAHB and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), features state-of-the-art building technologies and housing solutions that can make homeownership more affordable for American families, and homes more resilient during natural disasters.

“The huge crowds that we saw on the National Mall this weekend demonstrate the urgency of addressing the affordability crisis,” said NAHB Chair Greg Ugalde. “The private sector and all levels of government must continue working together to find solutions to make housing affordable to all.”

In addition to the 12 exhibitors, the Showcase includes panel discussions and policy conversations with leaders across the housing industry.

HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson arrived at the event in a 3D-printed car created by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, an exhibitor at the Showcase who develops energy-efficient building system technologies and 3D-printed housing materials.

Is there a way to see the exhibits without visiting? The HUD website is pretty minimal.
