NAHB mourns the loss of Raymond E. Venema Jr., who passed away on March 3.

Mr. Venema was the NAHB 2018 Executive Board member representing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and had a long and distinguished career as a home builder and NAHB Federation leader.

A lifelong resident of Montoursville, Mr. Venema was the owner of Susquehanna Builders of Lycoming County Inc. He was a very active proponent for affordable housing.

Ray was an NAHB Life Director and served as president of both the West Branch Susquehanna Builders Association and the Pennsylvania Builders Association and, as testament to his service, was awarded both local and state Builder of the Year awards.

In addition to his service as NAHB State Representative, Mr. Venema had been appointed to the NAHB Custom Home Builders Committee and named Second Vice Chair of the Single Family Builders Committee.

Mr. Venema treasured time with family, particularly his granddaughter Aliyah. He also loved traveling, hiking with his dogs, scuba diving, wine tastings, attending concerts and dancing.

Survived by his father, brothers, sisters and wife Lori, Mr. Venema also leaves his son Eric Venema of Hughesville, Pa. and daughter Janel Gordner of Danville, Pa.

A memorial service will be held on March 10 at 4 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 2 Ross St., Williamsport. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 3-4 p.m. prior to the service, and will be followed by a celebration of life at 5:30 p.m. at the Historic Gennetti Hotel Ballroom, 200 W. Fourth St., Williamsport.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in his memory to either the West Branch Builders Association towards a scholarship program, or to the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.
