Top Spikes Pulling in the Members

puppy tugEvery month, NAHB recognizes the top HBA membership recruiters in each region and, as the competition heats up this summer, we’ve got three ties.

Here are the folks who recruited the most new Builder and Associate members to our association in June. When you see them, say hi – and congrats.

Region A: Dean Kroll, Buffalo Niagara BA (N.Y.) and Tom Marshall, Northern Virginia BIA

Region B: Jerry Cowan, Greater Greensboro BA (N.C.) and Kyle Murphy, AHB of Greater Birmingham (Ala.)

Region C: Robert M. Tedesco, HBA of Southeastern Michigan

Region D: Clark Edwards, Enid HBA (Okla.) and Adolfo Canales, Greater San Antonio Builders Association (Texas).

Region E: S. Robert August, HBA of Metropolitan Denver

For Dean Kroll, the owner and president of ZAMKRO Development LLC, getting new members was a lesson on working smarter, not harder. The Buffalo Niagara Builders Association in New York decided to bundle participation in its parade of homes along with the Home and Garden Expo. When it was open to everyone and attractively priced, non-members were ready to join.

“It was a no brainer and the market’s response has been exceptional,” Kroll says. “We stressed to the builders participating in the home show that their trades and/or suppliers need to be members to advertise in their home…which is driving traffic to the show, which provides the value!”

Recruiting new members to your local association is an activity recognized and rewarded through the Spike Club. Those who participate are called Spikes, and they are among the most valued members of the association. Read more at nahb.org/SpikeClub.

  1. Another great story of bundling and packaging membership! Congratulations!
Parade of Homes, Homeramas, Idea Home promotions are a way to solicit non-members, get them involved and demonstrate the benefits of membership!
    ONwards and UPwards!

  2. Ken Patton says:

Bill Smock, owner of Gator Plumbing in Bradenton, Florida is our association’s ace recruiter. He has never met a local business that would not benefit from NAHB membership. He is a great example to everyone in our local membership and is seriously working his way up the Spike ladder.
