HalawaXeriscapeThe NAHB Student Chapter at Honolulu Community College have been busy helping their local HBA with special events, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and learning a lot about careers in home building and the jobs they’ll aspire to.

But one community service event shows off the chapter’s versatility as well as their commitment to excellent environmental practices.

This summer, the students helped to build a retaining wall at the Halawa Xeriscape Garden using recycled tires to create more planting space.

The xeriscape garden is open to the community, teaches water conservation classes and exhibits landscaping plants.
