Creating Connected Communities for Aging Well

seniorswithtabletThirty-six experts in the fields of technology, urban design, residential development, academia, residential architecture, health, local and federal government policy and product development met in Washington in May to explore the ways older consumers use technology and what sorts of technology might work for them in the future.

One aim of the conference was to identify support technologies to connect aging residents to products and services offered by local businesses, communities and built spaces. Another goal was to determine if technologies could let older adults stay longer in their homes, reduce the number of caregiver hours and/or delay the age of entry into assisted living. The group also looked at perceptions the survey identified as barriers to using such technology.
