There it is! There’s the house! Look at the front porch, it’s awesome!”

Three young women voiced just the kind of excitement that the Home Building Association of Richmond had hoped for when the Young House Love bloggers and a Richmond-area builder teamed up to produce one of the houses for Richmond Homearama 2014.

“The impact has been phenomenal,” said Kevin McNulty, president of LifeStyle Builders & Developers and chair of Richmond Homearama 2014. “I personally met a lady who came from Michigan, and I assumed she was on vacation here. She told me she follows the Young House Love blog and drove here to see the house.”

Builders and HBAs often worry about the impact of celebrities at home shows and parades: Sometimes, they can distract from the purpose of the event, which is to market the builders and sell the homes. Not so at the Richmond event: Read the full story to see how it turned out.

  1. Very nicely done exterior. Terrific window and door pattern, really like the repeated gable detail and the finishes and colors. The house has a human scale to it that makes it feel inviting and cozy. Congratulations on a job well done.
