Housing Affordability Edges Up in 4th Quarter 2014

Slightly lower interest rates and home prices contributed to a slight increase in nationwide housing affordability in the fourth quarter of 2014, according to the NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Opportunity Index released today. In all, 62.8% of new and existing homes sold between the beginning of October and end of December were affordable to families earning the median income of $63,900. This is up from the 61.8% of homes sold in the third quarter.

Housing Affordability Slightly Lower in 3rd Quarter

Firming home prices in markets across the country contributed to a slight dip in nationwide housing affordability in the third quarter of 2014, according to the NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Opportunity Index, released today. In all, 61.8% of new and existing homes sold between the beginning of July and the end of September were affordable to families earning the U.S. median income of $63,900, down from the 62.6% in the second quarter.

Housing Affordability Dips in Second Quarter

Homes were less affordable in the second quarter of 2014, according to the NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Opportunity Index (HOI), released today.

In all, 62.6% of new and existing homes sold between the beginning of April and the end of June were affordable to families earning the U.S. median income of $63,900. This is down from the 65.5% of homes in the first quarter.
