HUD Publishes Final Rule on Small Area Fair Market Rents

HUD today published a final rule to use Small Area Fair Market Rents (Small Area FMRs) in place of the current 50th percentile rent for certain metropolitan areas. Small Area FMRs are based on U.S. Postal Service ZIP codes rather than an entire metropolitan area.

HUD Proposes Rule to Use ZIP Code-Based Fair Market Rents

HUD today proposed a rule to use Small Area Fair Market Rents in place of the current 50th percentile rent for certain metropolitan areas. The agency believes the move would give Housing Choice Voucher tenants a more effective means to move into areas of higher opportunity where jobs, transportation and educational opportunities exist.
