Each year, the NAHB International Builders’Show® (IBS) brings together the best in the business for the industry’s largest light-construction trade show. From industry leaders to innovative product manufacturers, thousands of attendees will pack the floors of the Las Vegas Convention Center from Jan. 21-23, 2020, to see top products, learn about the latest trends and make new connections.

“Attending the show has something for everyone, with show homes, the show floor, education sessions, networking events and hands-on demonstrations,” stated Adam Van Bavel, business development manager at ONeil Interactive and a five-time attendee of the show. “It’s massive both in size and offerings.”

“I certainly wouldn’t be as successful or knowledgeable if I didn’t attend IBS every year,” he added.

Given the wealth of opportunities available to explore, learn and network, it can be hard to figure out how to maximize your time at the show. One of Van Bavel’s favorite tools is the IBS app, which lets you favorite sessions, exhibitors and the events you want to attend. Backup batteries and chargers are a must as well to keep your devices up and running as you run around the show.

One of the new additions at last year’s show was the Game Changers series. Game Changers are twice-daily keynotes that feature brilliant thought leaders who are transforming the way we think about and address critical issues in the housing industry. Van Bavel appreciated the ones he attended for their outside-the-industry perspectives.

“I’m big on culture. More importantly, I’m an advocate for impact,” he shared, noting Ryo Zsun of Zappos’ engagement on the topic as a particularly strong session. “[Zappos] crushes culture and makes a significant impact in all it does. Zappos isn’t a company — it’s a mission. As land continues to grow in scarcity, inventory is limited, and competition is fiercer than ever, it’s critical for home builders to focus on culture, customer experience and brand to be successful.”

Innovative Game Changers speakers this year include:

  • Kelly McDonald, president of McDonald Marketing
  • Gerry O’Brion, nationally recognized marketing and branding expert
  • Sheryl Palmer, chairman and CEO of Taylor Morrison

Some of the key events that Van Bavel is most excited about for IBS 2020 are the NAHB Young Professionals NEXT Lounge at NAHB HQ, and the #NAHBYP happy hour with Builders of Instagram and Professional Women in Building.

“Being at the show is an amazing opportunity to learn, share, and make new friends within the industry,” he lauded. “I can’t wait to see what this year’s show holds!”

“If you’re on LinkedIn, check out some of the people attending #IBS2020 this year,” Van Bavel added.

  1. Clash of the Titans is one of my favorites, honestly. It’s a fun look at whatever serious comparison they discuss, with so much sarcasm in the debate…it’s a must attend session.

    • Dennis and company appreciate that, Cindy!

It’s certainly meant to be entertaining while also mind-expanding. For those reading… what’s your digital marketing question(s) that keep you up at night?

Often times there is no correct answer – the winners are the ones who try, test, and achieve success 🏆

  2. The networking & education at IBS are second to none! I look forward to taking advantage of everything it has to offer once again in 2020!
