The House yesterday passed NAHB-supported legislation that would allow state licensed appraisers to perform Federal Housing Administration (FHA) appraisals. The measure would help alleviate the current shortage of certified appraisers and make it easier for home buyers to purchase a home with a FHA mortgage – particularly those living in rural areas.

H.R. 2852, the Homebuyer Assistance Act of 2019, was introduced by Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) and overwhelmingly cleared the House by a 419-5 vote.
