The Council Awards for Demonstrating Remodeling Excellence (CADREs) were recently presented at the NAHB Remodelers All Stars Celebration during the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas. The winners include dedicated individuals and successful councils from HBAs across the nation who exemplified best practices within the remodeling industry.

The council award categories and 2018 CADRE recipients include:

  • Community Service Award: The Remodelers Council of the HBA of Fargo-Moorhead helped remodel the 2,105-square-foot Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch. The project was a collaboration between 45 member companies, securing more than $60,000 in donations, discounts, products and services, and impacting the lives of more than 75 kids.
  • Membership Recruitment and Retention. The Remodelers Council of the HBA of Greater Tulsa added the roles of secretary and treasurer, assigning them to act as both Calling and Greeting committees.
  • Member Services and Education. The Remodelers Council of the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders provided an exciting learning opportunity for council members by having Victoria Downing, president of Remodeler’s Advantage, Inc., lead one of its seminars. Downing is known for her high-energy educational seminars, as well as her in depth knowledge of the best practices that transform company performance. The event had a high turn-out and was received very well by the Remodelers Council.
  • Public Relations and Promotion. The Remodelers Council of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties hosted their annual Remodeling Excellence Awards and Trades Remodeling Excellence Awards (REX/T-REX) in early May. In years past, they saw around 70 entries total for their various award categories. In 2018, their number of entries reached an all-time high, increasing by 20%. They also saw a 20% increase in overall attendance, drawing nearly 250 people.

The individuals who received a 2018 CADRE include:

  • Outstanding Associate Member. Zeke Keel of the Remodelers Council of the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders (GBAHB) has been a dedicated and active member of the GBAHB Remodelers Council, serving six years on the GBAHB Remodelers board. Keel has been in the industry for 15 years, working in various roles including operations manager, purchasing, inside sales and inventory control.
  • Outstanding Council Chair. Kevin Vick of the Greater Houston Builders Association served as the 2017 Houston Remodelers Council chair, the year Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston. Vick was instrumental in educating Houston home owners with post-hurricane information via radio, newspaper, magazines, pamphlets, social media and websites. He continues to publish remodeling articles in the Houston Chronicle and other publications to educate remodelers and consumers.
  • Outstanding Council Coordinator. Donna Buenik of the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) has been on the staff of the GHBA since 2006. She assumed the role of Remodelers Council Coordinator in October 2017. This was a difficult time in the Houston area in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, but Buenik’s understanding of the building industry, the association and the remodelers council was invaluable and enabled a seamless transition.
