Former NAHB Chairman Bob Jones

NAHB is mourning the loss of its former chairman Bob Jones of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., who passed away on October 30.

As 2010 chairman, Jones led NAHB as the home building industry struggled through the nation’s worst housing market in more than seven decades. In 2017, he was inducted into the National Housing Hall of Fame, which recognizes people whose spirit, ingenuity, determination and contributions have changed housing for the better.

An award-winning custom home builder, Jones was president of Robert R. Jones Homes, which specializes in land development and the design and construction of single-family luxury homes throughout southeastern Michigan.

Jones was also a strong advocate for women within the home building industry, and he demonstrated his support by being an active member of NAHB’s Professional Women in Building. His wife, Carole, is a past chair of PWB.

During a career spanning more than 40 years, Jones earned a reputation for excellence and was a tireless advocate for housing. He was well known for his belief in continuing education, for his dedication to philanthropy, and for serving as a mentor to many others in the home building industry.

Jones also earned the Certified Green Professional and Certified Graduate Builder designations, and he played a key role in establishing U.S. legal precedent in 1988 for damage awards to home builders in copyright infringement litigation.

An NAHB Senior Life Director, Jones chaired and participated in numerous association committees and task forces, and served as a National Vice President and State Representative before being elected as an NAHB Senior Officer. He was president of the Michigan Association of Builders in 1999 and served as president of the BIA of Southeastern Michigan in 1994.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14, at St. Regis Catholic Church, 3695 Lincoln Rd, Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Visitation at the church will be from 10-11 a.m., immediately followed by the service.
