3 Goals of The New American Home 2019

Dan Coletti, president of Sun West, an award-winning Las Vegas design build firm of luxury custom homes, says he went “outside the box” with many of the design aspects of The New American Home 2019, the flagship exhibit of NAHB’s upcoming International Builders’ Show (IBS).

“Design is always maturing,” Coletti said, “and with the mixture of this home’s design, the products, the lot and its overall aura, I’m hoping that when people see the finished product, they truly enjoy it and say ‘wow, I can’t believe they could do that.’”

The five-bed, five-bath home, located in a mountainside suburb of Las Vegas, is in the final stages of construction. It will be officially unveiled to the public during IBS, Feb. 19-21. Show attendees will be able to see for themselves a wide variety of the latest building products and techniques incorporated into the home.

Coletti recently described what his primary goals are for the project, and what show goers can anticipate when they tour the home:

Ultimate Views

Coletti says he knew right away that the master bedroom, the great room, the kitchen had to “take full advantage of the fantastic views off the back of the property.” So they focused a great deal on the indoor-outdoor living spaces, enabling the great room, bar area, kitchen, spa and master bedroom to flow seamlessly between the indoors and outdoors.

Unique Design

As a fan of single-sloped rooflines, Coletti wanted to integrate that into the 2019 home. “[The design] was well received by everyone, so we moved forward with it and I’m excited by how it’s taken shape … Additionally, the home has some very unique garage spaces. The front walkway runs alongside a glass-enclosed garage – a prime location for the owners to display their favorite cars … Anyone who is a car fanatic is going to love that particular approach to this house.”

Optimized Energy Efficiency

The project aims to achieve a HERS rating of less than 50. That is no easy feat for such a large home, but having the best products makes the goal much more attainable. “Owens Corning, Western Window Systems and several other manufacturers who have stepped forward with their best products are critical to helping us reach that energy goal.”

Thank you for your comment. The home is located in a new, residential, hillside community in Henderson, Nev., called Ascaya.
