NAHB Mourns Passing of James Nistler

Former Oregon HBA president and HUD official James Nistler died on Aug. 17 in Medford, Ore.

During his home building career, Mr. Nistler build more than 800 single- and multifamily houses in the Rogue Valley, Ore., region. The state HBA elected him into its Hall of Fame after a 30-year career as a home building advocate and active local, state and national association leader.

Mr. Nistler was appointed as HUD Deputy Assistant Secretary of Housing in 1984. He returned to Oregon after nine years in Washington, D.C., where he resumed his home building career and started a mortgage company.

Mr. Nistler is survived by his wife Michelle, son Trent Nistler, daughter Bridgette Decker, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
