Celebrate Our Log Home Heritage in July

July is National Log Homes Open House Month, celebrating the historical contributions and modern efficiency of log and timber homes.

From the simple and utilitarian log cabins of frontier lore to 21st-century luxury living, log homes have been part of the American landscape for over two centuries. Now entering its 41st year of operation, the Log and Timber Homes Council strives to celebrate and protect log home living for generations to come.

“Council members are true stewards of the log and timber frame home industry,” said Robert Wrightman, CEO of True North Log Homes and 2018 chairman of the NAHB Log and Timber Homes Council. “Whether through consumer education initiatives or ensuring log homes are protected in today’s building codes, member companies are at the forefront of the industry.”

Representing North American log and timber home manufacturers, members voluntarily pledge to:

  • Abide by a strict code of ethics
  • Grade their logs and timbers by third-party agencies to ensure quality
  • Provide construction manuals to ensure correct construction techniques
  • Sponsor scientific studies that advance log building technologies
  • Provide free information to help consumers make smart choices

Help the council celebrate everything log homes this summer during National Log Home Open House Month.

Introduced by retired Wisconsin Congressman Reid Ribble in 2012, the Congressional record recognizes the log home industry each July. Since its inception, members of the Log and Timber Homes Council have promoted log home ownership by hosting factory tours, log raising demonstrations and additional events for consumers.

“Council members always rally behind Log Homes Open House Month,” said Wrightman. “It’s a great opportunity to educate the public about modern log home manufacturing and living.”
