Whether they are home builders, remodelers, developers or their trade partners, the vast majority of NAHB members run small businesses – a category that the Small Business Administration (SBA) defines as companies with fewer than 500 employees and that comprises more than 99% of all American businesses.

And for the 55th year in a row, the SBA is commemorating these firms by observing National Small Business Week.

The centerpiece is a three-day virtual conference May 1-3 that businesses can drop in and out of, depending on the speaker or the topic, covering the tips ad tools that can help small businesses thrive. Topics include social media and email marketing, cloud storage and computing, customer service and more.

SBA staff are also taking a Southern-focused, multi-city “bus tour” to highlight small business owners in Jacksonville, Fla.; Savannah, Ga.; Columbia, S.C.; Fayetteville, N.C. and Raleigh, N.C. and hosting a Twitter chat at #SmallBusinessWeek on Friday, May 4 focused on starting and growing a small business.
