More than 700 visitors representing nearly 500 companies visited the Building Systems Councils (BSC) Hospitality Lounge at the 2018 International Builders’ Show.

Building industry professionals enjoyed 15 presentations and multiple networking events focusing on modular, panelized, concrete, log and timber frame home construction.

The highlight, according to attendees: Popular TV personality and home building industry expert Mike Holmes hosted a discussion with BSC member Timber Block on growing your home building business with panelized construction. Holmes spent nearly an hour discussing the speed, efficiency and high-performance characteristics of building with prefabricated wall panels during a round table featuring other members of the Holmes Group and representatives from Timber Block.

Holmes’ discussion was following by a building systems industry happy hour, one of two networking events hosted in the lounge that brought together building systems experts and those interested in learning more about offsite construction.

“I was amazed by the cross-section of people in the lounge,” said Devin Perry, BSC manager of membership programs. “The group was incredibly diverse. Everyone from a pair of researchers from MIT to custom home builders stopped by. It even drew about a dozen international attendees as well.”

BSC Chairman Mike Weber said the lounge saw a 50% increase in traffic compared to last year. “It’s clear to me that interest in building systems is on the rise. It was terrific to see such a wide range of individuals interact with BSC members,” said Weber.
