Lisa and her husband Travis Miller, incoming vice president for the HBA of Springfield, work at the food bank.

More than 100 members gathered at Springfield’s local food bank to volunteer, enjoy a great meal and hand out awards when the HBA of Greater Springfield in Missouri celebrated the holiday and installed the 2018 Board of Directors at its annual Christmas party Dec. 14.

HBA members divided into four teams to assemble food boxes for senior citizens and food bags for the school backpack program, sort the food bank’s dairy products and reorganize and clean a collection of miscellaneous soda cans and bottles.

Jon and Denise Feldt show off their organizational expertise.

By the end of the evening, HBA members had assembled almost 11,000 meals and sorted more than 7,000 pounds of dairy products and soda, making a direct impact on the community.

After all of their hard work, HBA members enjoyed a fabulous pulled pork dinner, celebrated the HBA’s 2017 successes and began planning for 2018.

“This year was the third year in a row the HBA of Greater Springfield has volunteered at a local nonprofit for the Christmas party,” said EO Charlyce Ruth. “Our members enjoy the opportunity to give back to the community and have a more relaxed Christmas party experience. It was a lot of fun.”
