Tax Reform Clears a Key Hurdle

The House yesterday narrowly approved a budget measure by a 216-212 vote that would allow a tax reform package — now being crafted by Republican leaders — to move forward.

Earlier this week, the Senate passed the 2018 budget resolution by a correspondingly slim 51-49 vote. This means that the Senate can approve a tax bill by a simple majority, shielding the measure from a Democratic filibuster.

House Republicans are expected to unveil a tax relief bill on Nov. 1.

NAHB continues to work with the White House and GOP congressional leaders to ensure the tax reform package is fair and promotes greater housing opportunity for renters and home owners across the economic spectrum.
