NAHB Remembers Code Official Gilbert Gonzales Jr.

gonzalesFuneral services will be held Aug. 19 for Gilbert Gonzales Jr., a member of the International Code Council Board of Directors and a home builder’s advocate on building and energy codes.

Mr. Gonzales, 64, served as chief building official for Murray City, Utah, and was “a major player in the building code development process,” said Chip Dence, chair of the NAHB Construction, Codes and Standards committee and a home builder in Victoria, Texas.

“Gilbert was almost always sympathetic and supportive of our position on a lot of the code change proposals,” Dence said, usually coming down on the side of affordability and cost-effectiveness. “He certainly was a great friend of the home building industry and NAHB.”

Gilbert is survived by his wife Kaylana, children Maureen, Bernadette, Armani and Tarik, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The service will take place at 6 p.m. at Starks Funeral Parlor at 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. For additional details, read Mr. Gonzales’ obituary.
