New Maps Pinpoint Low-Income Housing Development Opportunities

NAHB has a new resource for industry professionals interested in providing homes for lower-income families and learning more about development and financing opportunities using the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC).

Using LIHTC data from HUD and demographic and housing data from the U.S. Census American Community Survey, the NAHB Economics and Housing Policy group created eight maps of metro areas where the LIHTC program is most utilized. These maps show the concentration of LIHTC units by Census tract, and break down each tract into various income levels: very low, low, moderate or high.

Members can use these maps to better understand the distribution of LIHTC housing in select metropolitan areas and identify where additional housing may be needed.

Here are examples from the LIHTC maps of the Greater San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward, California Metropolitan Statistical Area.
