Mentor a Student to Help ICC Promote Building Safety Month

Leaders in the trade and professional organizations that represent the residential construction industry are beating the drums to attract more young adults to the building trades.

NAHB is leading the efforts through a workforce development toolkit, scholarships, the NAHB Student Chapters program and dozens and dozens of individual efforts launched by our state and local HBAs.

But it’s not just the people who build houses who are looking to enlarge their employment bases. The people who inspect those homes are too: The International Code Council is commemorating Building Safety Month in May, and as a principal sponsor, NAHB is helping to raise awareness about the need to mentor the next generation of building professionals.

“In addition to learning about construction, engineering and architecture, the future workforce needs to become knowledgeable about the building codes to ensure the very best, resilient buildings,” ICC points out in its promotional materials.

You can learn more about Building Safety Month on the ICC website. ICC members are being encouraged to speak to local schools and community groups about the advantages of joining the residential construction industry. You can too: Contact Greg Zick for promotional materials and to learn how to form a student chapter partnership between a local high school or college and your HBA.
