BIA of Washington Improves Fire Reporting

Gov. Jay Inslee (D-Washington) on Tuesday signed House Bill 1863, which requires the state fire service to participate in the National Fire Incident Reporting System and — thanks to an amendment initiated by the BIA of Washington — include the age of the affected building in the fire report. Advocates who want to keep residential fire sprinklers voluntary, rather than a mandate, now have better data to show why sprinklers are unnecessary in new homes, built with safer electrical systems and other features to make fires significantly less likely to occur than in older homes. BIA Government Affairs Director Jan Himebaugh (in green dress) and Codes and Regulations Manager Al Audette (to Himebaugh’s right) attended the signing ceremony.
