NAHB Mourns Death of Arthur Rutenberg

Arthur Rutenberg, father of past NAHB Chairman Barry Rutenberg and a respected home builder, passed away on March 29 at the age of 89.

Born in Chicago in 1927, Mr. Rutenberg served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and earned a chemical engineering degree from Northwestern University.

Mr. Rutenberg moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1953 to start his home building business. Rutenberg Homes was merged into U.S. Home, of which he was co-founder. He later founded Arthur Rutenberg Homes, a franchisor of home builders. He was an avid pilot and flew airplanes into his eighties.

In addition to his son Barry, Mr. Rutenberg is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jane; daughters, Sharon Rosenberg, Jan Morse, and Julie Rutenberg; son Steven Rutenberg; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a brother, Daniel Rutenberg.

Funeral services took place April 3 in Clearwater. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
