Congress Approves 1-Week Extension to Fund the Government

With a midnight deadline approaching before a federal government shutdown, Congress today approved a continuing resolution to keep the government open for one more week until May 5.

This will give Republican and Democratic lawmakers additional time to hammer out a long-term agreement on a spending bill to fund the government through Sept. 30, the end of the current fiscal year.
