NAHB named Renaissance Luxury Living at Sun Lakes the 2016 Community of the Year and its builder, Robson Resort Communities Inc., the 2016 Builder of the Year on Tuesday during the Best of 55+ Housing Awards.
The annual awards program, held Tuesday evening during the International Builders’ Show in Orlando, honored excellence and innovation in the design, development, lifestyle and marketing of housing that appeals to the mature market.
“Renaissance Luxury Living at Sun Lakes brings elegant, active senior living with a continuum of care,” said Karen Schroeder, the awards chair and vice president of Mayberry Homes LLC in Lansing, Mich.
“In this project, our winner has beautifully combined the feel of an upscale desert resort with the comforts and security that enhance seniors’ ability to enjoy life to the fullest,” she said.
Located in Sun Lakes, Ariz., 24 miles from Phoenix, the community has 106 units that offers the full continuum of senior lifestyle options, from independent living apartments to assisted living and memory care. The development was so popular that there was a wait list before construction was complete. It’s on target to be 90% occupied within six months of opening.
The building’s architecture reflects and reveals the surrounding desert setting. Inside, residences with large floor plans and luxury finishes are designed for elegance and convenience. No-threshold doors, motion-sensitive lighting in bathrooms, walk-in tubs and roll-in showers enhance freedom of movement and offer convenient daily living.
A dining room with patio and full-service bar, a large-screen movie theater designed for easy access by those using walkers and wheelchairs, a resort-style pool with cabanas and motorized lift chair, a state-of-the-art fitness center, enclosed courtyard with gazebo and walking path around the building’s exterior all support an active, engaged lifestyle.
Robson Resort Communities, with locations around Arizona and Texas, focuses on the upscale segment of the retirement market and is committed to building, developing and managing retirement communities for long-term sustainability.
The firm has developed creative floor plans that offer flexibility and exteriors that reflect a variety of architectural styles that enrich neighborhoods. Among the senior housing trends the company is moving into are multi-generational living options and “lock and leave” single-level villas. Robson also partners with other companies to increase energy efficiency and smart home technology.
