At the onset of the recession in 2008, Robert Wood decided it was time to change gears. During a time of great uncertainty, he left his job working for a production home builder, and he and his wife started their own remodeling firm.
Mountainwood Homes in Beaverton, Ore., not only weathered the storm of a great recession, it maintained incremental growth. And in recent years, the company has had tremendous success and now boasts 22 employees.
The key to this growth, according to Wood: “Don’t be a one hit wonder.”
Wood has worked hard to build a reputation for consistently delivering high-quality work and top-notch service to his clients. Being able to demonstrate that time and again has led to a steady stream of referrals, and it’s a big part of why Wood was named November’s NAHB Remodeler of the Month.
Wood explains in a Q&A with Qualified Remodeler that truly listening to the needs of each client is a primary function of his business that generates the best leads. Fortunately for him, it’s not difficult to find the drive needed to sustain that momentum.
“I’m lucky that I get to do what I love [for a living],” Wood said. “It’s easy motivation.”
If you know a professional remodeler who takes remodeling to the next level, nominate him or her for NAHB Remodeler of the Month.
