The New York Times calls Charlie Cook “one of the best political handicappers in the nation.” NAHB is glad to be calling him our guest speaker Aug. 9 when the association’s board of directors gathers in Miami for the Midyear Meeting.

It’s been a fascinating election year so far, and the current battle for the top of the ticket between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump is bound to spill over into tightly contested races for Congress and the Senate — and certainly a new mix of faces, and even changeover between the minority and majority parties on the chamber floors.

Cook will talk about how he sees key races in the House and Senate shaping up, what a shift in power will mean after the November elections, and offer a look ahead to next year and beyond.

Many NAHB members are especially interested in this year’s races because the issues that candidates are talking about — from immigration reform and labor issues to health insurance and incentives for affordable housing —are ones with a potentially huge impact on our industry and their businesses.

It’s a big reason why members created and continue to support BUILD-PAC. As NAHB’s bipartisan political action committee, BUILD-PAC helps elect pro-housing, pro-business candidates to federal office.

“This is an important election for all of us,” said BUILD-PAC chairman Eugen Graf, a third-generation builder and developer in Bozeman, Mont. “By investing in BUILD-PAC, I am investing in housing’s future.”
