PWB and BUILD-PAC: A Capitol Match

Filed in Capitol Hill, Councils & Committees by on June 17, 2016 2 Comments

The Capitol Building, Washington DCMembers know that BUILD-PAC, NAHB’s bipartisan federal political action committee, helps pro-housing, pro-business candidates get elected to Congress by contributing to their campaigns.

What members may not know is that to support these candidates, the Professional Women in Building Council (PWB) has raised more than $20,000 so far this year for BUILD-PAC.

PWB is, in fact, is one of BUILDPAC’s most visible and successful advocates. Council members keep a high profile at all national board meetings, creating buzz and offering fun incentives like luggage tags, scarves and other prizes to help generate donations. PWB is constantly spreading the message that an investment in BUILD-PAC is an investment in the future of housing.

“PWB’s involvement in BUILD-PAC should be no surprise, considering that women have been leading voter turnout in elections across the country for the past four decades,” said Cindy Cepko, 2016 chair. “With the November elections right around the corner, our council is focused on making housing issues a priority.”

BUILD-PAC started the Fair Share campaign last year to boost participation rates: If all members invest a minimum of $25 in BUILD-PAC, housing’s voice will be louder and stronger than ever before.

Other members are able to give even more. “My husband, Bob, and I are Gold Key contributors of BUILD-PAC,” said Carole Jones, PWB’s immediate past chair. “We contribute to BUILD-PAC annually because we recognize that our contribution helps effectively deliver the housing industry’s message to Congress and other key players on Capitol Hill.”

In fact, there are more than 1,000 new donors to BUILD-PAC in 2016. “We’ve got a great story to tell to lawmakers, voters and the American people,” said 2016 BUILD-PAC Chair Eugen Graf. “The home is central to American family life, and housing is key to job creation and economic growth. It is important that we have the resources we need to support candidates who understand our perspective and will provide a pro-housing, pro-business voice on Capitol Hill.”

As an essential element in NAHB’s broad advocacy strategy, BUILD-PAC helps open the doors to decision makers. When coupled with the work of NAHB’s advocacy team, your association is ensuring that housing’s voice is heard on Capitol Hill.

PWB’s strong growth is evidence that more than ever, woman are leaders in the housing industry. With an investment in BUILD-PAC, women can make their marking the political arena as well. To learn more about BUILD-PAC, contact Sofia Fox at 800-368-5242 x8248.
