NAHB Names 2015’s Outstanding Designees

NAHB is honoring 11 housing professionals for elevating the industry through education as the 2015 Designees of the Year. The winners will be recognized at the 2016 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas.

Each honoree holds at least one professional designation in specialties from affordable housing tax issues to incorporating universal design principles in remodeling.

“By presenting the Designee of the Year awards, NAHB honors individuals who fully embody our ideals,” said 2015 NAHB Education Chair Tom Stephani, CAPS, CGP, CGR, GMB and MIRM, an Illinois custom builder and instructor.

Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) of the Year. Scott R. Sevon, CGP, GMB, CGR, CAPS, GMR, a partner in MAW LLC, a Chicago renovation firm. The HBA of Greater Chicago awarded him Builder of the Year in 2004 and Remodeler of the Year in 2006. Sevon was also 2006 NAHB GMB of the Year and 2010 GMR of the Year.

Certified Graduate Associate (CGA) of the Year. Kathy Craven Snodgrass, CAPS, CGA, CGP, works with Piedmont Natural Gas Co. in North Carolina, which encourages and supports her involvement in association issues. Snodgrass served as NAHB National Association Chairman in 2013 and 2014.

Certified Graduate Builder (CGB) of the Year. Doreen Adams, CAPS, CGB, CGP, CSP, of Integrity Builders in Louisiana, is president of Northshore Home Builders in Louisiana and on the board of the Louisiana HBA and NAHB. She is involved in many local initiatives, including Raising the Roof for Charity and the political action committee.

Certified Green Professional™ (CGP) of the Year. Kenneth J. Fox, CGA, CGP, is president and senior architect of Fox Architectural Design P.C., in Roxbury Township, N.J. His company designs commercial, industrial and municipal facilities as well as custom homes and additions. Fox was honored with 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 Metropolitan Builders & Contractors of New Jersey Awards of Excellence.

Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR) of the Year. Stephen C. Gidley, CAPS, CGB, CGP, CGR, GMB, whose full-service Fairfield County, Conn., construction company has a 90% client retention rate with 75% of its work coming from repeat clients and word-of-mouth referrals. Qualified Remodeler magazine has twice named the company to its Top 200 lists.

Graduate Master Builder (GMB) of the Year. Philip Shelton, CAPS, CGB, CGP, CGR, GMB, GMR, is president of Shelton Construction Inc., and works on projects from custom home building and remodeling to commercial construction and hardscape. He has been president of the Greater Morgan County BA in Alabama three times and named the association’s Remodeler of the Year for 2009-2012 and 2014.

Graduate Master Remodeler (GMR) of the Year. Phil Calinda Jr., CAPS, CGB, CGP, CGR, GMB, GMR, Millennium Custom Homes LLC, Livingston, N.J. Calinda is an approved NAHB instructor and has been local vice president, secretary and chairman of education and programming for the Remodelers Council and co-chair of the Green Builders Council. He is also a member of the NAHB Board of Directors.

Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP) of the Year. Stacy Day, HCCP, Senior Vice President of Compliance/Regional Vice President of Ambling Management Co. in Georgia, is responsible for assuring her company’s compliance with all federal and state guidelines. In addition, Day manages implementation and training for the company’s compliance-related policies and procedures.

Master Certified Green Professional (Master CGP) of the Year. Anwar Khalifa, CAPS, CGP, GMB, Master CGP, of Pyramid Homes in Tyler, Texas, was one of the first five in the nation to receive Master CGP designation. Pyramid Homes is also involved in research home projects to study indoor air quality and energy-efficiency measures.

Master Certified New Home Sales Professional (Master CSP) of the Year. Jean Ewell, CMP, CSP, Master CSP, MIRM, is sales manager for a leading builder in St. Charles County near St. Louis. She is a former member of the National Sales and Marketing Council’s Board of Trustees and past president of NAHB’s Institute of Residential Marketing. She was also 2014 MIRM of the Year.

Master in Residential Marketing (MIRM) of the Year. Chuck Miller, CAPS, CGB, CGP, CGR, CMP, CSP, GMB, Master CSP, MIRM, of Chuck Miller Construction, Inc., is an active member of the Building Contractors Association of Southwestern Idaho, which recognized him as the 2003 Builder of the Year. Miller is also an approved instructor for NAHB Education.
