armybootsandflagEach year, on Veteran’s Day (Nov. 11) we set aside time to reflect on the sacrifices our nation’s service members have made in their efforts to protect our country.  Home builders have the unique honor and privilege of providing well-built, comfortable and affordable housing for military veterans — many of whom have returned home with debilitating injuries that make every day life a challenge.

A new webinar replay, Strategies for Serving America’s Veteran Population, is now available free to NAHB members. In this 60-minute education session, expert speakers address topics related to the requirements and process of applying for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) housing program for veterans, the HUD Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program or VASH.

VASH combines the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs to address and support the housing and health care needs of U.S. military vets. HCV is the federal government’s largest rental assistance program, helping very low-income families, seniors and disabled individuals afford clean and safe housing in the private market.

In addition to covering VASH basics, the presenters also discuss strategies for providing veterans with housing when VASH is unavailable, and go over some of the support services that are generally provided for in veterans’ housing, as well as the role of a well-trained and engaged management staff.

Non-members can view the replay for a $20 fee.
