Ohio Congressman Steve Stivers spoke with Fred Tobin and other BUILD-PAC supporters at an event in Columbus.

Recent BUILD-PAC events across the nation serve as a reminder of how NAHB members can amplify their voice through collective action.

BUILD-PAC trustees in Missouri, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Maryland and Ohio hosted successful fundraisers that will help BUILD-PAC in the hotly contested 2016 election cycle. Local and state HBAs provided strong support to help boost these important events.

In Maryland, former NAHB president and current BUILD-PAC Trustee Bob Mitchell hosted an event on a theme of “365 days until the election.” The event took place at the new offices of the Maryland Building Industry Association in Fulton, about halfway between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D) stopped by the event to talk with builders on the issues facing the housing industry.

In South Dakota, Kim Hefner-Hines and Paul Nelson hosted an intimate. high-donor dinner in Sioux Falls with members of the HBA of the Sioux Empire (HBASE). The wildly successful fundraiser brought in roughly $20,000 for BUILD-PAC and over a dozen new high donors.

NAHB Chairman Tom Woods had an opportunity to greet each guest and talk about issues facing the home building industry. Hefner-Hines noted that several members appreciated being educated on the importance of BUILD-PAC and that there was a lot of excitement by the end of the evening.

“We are excited for BUILD-PAC and excited for HBASE, as we’ve never had an opportunity like this before and it was amazing to see the success that it generated in just a few short hours,” Hefner-Hines said.

Ohio Congressman Steve Stivers attended an event hosted by BUILD-PAC Trustee Fred Tobin in Columbus, and praised the home builders for their work in the policy arena.

“I appreciate the work of BUILD PAC, the Ohio Home Builders, and their government advocacy efforts to promote a strong housing market, which is so critical to our economy and the ultimate prosperity of Ohio families,” he said.

Missouri hosted two great events within a two week span. Former BUILD-PAC Chairman Bob Frost and the staff of the HBA of Greater Kansas City hosted a very successful Scotch and Cigars event recruiting several new PAC donors. During the event, NAHB’s Chief Lobbyist Jim Tobin briefed attendees on the important battles NAHB’s advocacy team is fighting in Washington.

Just two short weeks later, BUILD-PAC Trustee Brett Hardesty put together a great event in St. Louis with the help of Bob Schenk and the staff at the HBA of St. Louis and Eastern Missouri. BUILD-PAC Chairman Fred Hoppe gave a pep talk on the importance of investing in NAHB’s political action committee. And J.P. Delmore from NAHB’s government affairs shop gave an update on “Waters of the U.S.” and other key legislative issues, as well as a look at the political landscape heading into the 2016 elections.

Pennsylvania’s BUILD-PAC trustees hosted a wine reception in conjunction with Pennsylvania’s Annual Fall Board meeting in Hershey. Attendees who invested in BUILD-PAC received a bottle of wine and BUILD-PAC stemless wine glass.

Scott Petri, a candidate for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th District, made a special appearance at the event. It was a great event generating several new BUILD-PAC investors and new high donors.
