The application period is open for the 2016 NAHB Remodelers Leadership Scholarship for leaders of local NAHB-affiliated remodelers councils.

The scholarship provides $1,500 to offset expenses related to attending NAHB Remodelers meetings and events at the 2016 International Builders’ Show.

The scholarship is for educational purposes so local leaders learn about NAHB Remodelers and the remodeling industry at the national level, as well as  learn best practices for running a successful local council.

Previous scholarship recipients have found their participation to be a rewarding experience, and some have gone on to become leaders at the national level. Current NAHB Remodelers Trustees Michael Menn, CAPS, CGP, CGR, and Jeff Grantham, CAPS, CGP, CGR, GMB, were scholarship recipients in 2006 and 2011.

John Guillory, CAPS, CGA, owner of Custom Home Designs, LLC, in Baton Rouge, La., and chair of the remodelers council of the Capital Region Builders Association, received a scholarship in 2015.

“I really felt like I was in the right place at the right time,” he said. “There were so many resources, approachable people, and it was incredibly helpful to see what is available at NAHB.”

Scholarship recipients must attend the NAHB Remodelers meetings and leadership orientation activities during the NAHB IBS Board meeting Jan. 17-18, 2016, in Las Vegas, as well as at least one day of the International Builders’ Show and events in the Remodelers Central (Jan. 19-21).

“Having one-on-one sessions and making sure that you are capturing the information that is relevant at the meetings and relaying it to your locals is important,” said 2015 recipient Marie Herrick, owner of Modern Touches Home Remodeling, and vice chair of the remodelers council of the HBA of Greater Des Moines.
