What’s New in Community Design?

community designThe line between urban and suburban is blurring, especially as Millennials enter the home buying market, according to Best in American Living (BALA), NAHB’s design blog. Urban neighborhoods are starting to resemble small towns, the better to accommodate new families who thought they needed to move out to gain more room.

Another trend: fewer front lawns, replaced by landscaping, “which often serves a dual purpose of managing stormwater and adding to the curb appeal,” the story says. On the other hand, we’re seeing more interior courtyards, particularly in multifamily communities, “to showcase private amenities such as pools and fire pits.”
